Introduction
Rhys from the RCT Council approached us with a specific challenge concerning one of the council buildings. The existing entrance comprised two standard-sized sets of swing doors. The occupants of the building required wider doors to facilitate easier access for everyone, including those with mobility issues.
Possible Issues
The primary concern was that these doors were part of the fire escape route. Any modifications to increase the width of the doors needed to comply with safety regulations and not compromise the existing fire safety setup.
Solution
Our team quickly assessed the situation and devised an innovative solution. We reconfigured the two doorways: one remained as a swing door equipped with push bars for straightforward emergency egress, while the other was converted into an automatic sliding door. This arrangement not only increased the overall width but also enhanced usability through automation, ensuring seamless access for all individuals, including those with disabilities.
Feedback
The feedback from the building’s users has been overwhelmingly positive. Rhys reported that everyone is very pleased with the new setup. He specifically highlighted the ease of use and the improved accessibility provided by the automatic sliding door. This project stands as a testament to the J Manny team’s ability to deliver effective and user-friendly solutions. We look forward to collaborating on future projects.
