Introduction
Kathryn reached out with a vision to improve accessibility at the Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre. The existing manual doors presented challenges for visitors, particularly those using wheelchairs. The single door leaf wasn’t wide enough to accommodate wheelchair access, and budget constraints made the project even more complex.
Challenges
Given that the entrance is a fire route, any modifications had to meet stringent safety regulations. This included ensuring that any new solutions would not compromise fire safety while enhancing accessibility for all visitors.
Solution
Our team carefully evaluated various options to find a solution that balanced cost-effectiveness with functionality. The final plan involved several key elements:
- Wider Door Leaf: We designed and installed a new, larger door leaf, which was automated to ensure ease of access for all users – a key part of our automatic door installation services.
- Manual Door Leaf: The existing smaller door leaf was retained as manual but was equipped with panic door release hardware. This ensures compliance with fire safety regulations, allowing for quick egress in emergencies.
Feedback
Kathryn expressed her satisfaction with the results, stating, “Wow, we love it! The team really hit the brief. We now have an entrance that is both welcoming and modern. Thanks to all involved for their hard work and innovative approach.”
This upgrade not only enhances accessibility but also contributes to a more inclusive and user-friendly environment at the Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre.
