Automatic door weekly checks
As a “Machine” you as the business Owner/ occupier are responsible to both staff and customers entering through the door to make sure it’s in good condition.
One way to clarify this, is to carry out a quick and easy check of your doors daily before turning them on for general use.
It’s very common for people to ignore the automatic doors until there is an apparent fault, just like any business owned machine such as a power tool – you should be conducting these visual checks before using the automatic doors.
The Automatic Door Suppliers Association have provided some helpful occupier safety check videos taking you through the daily checks.
Automatic Sliding Door Safety Checks
Do not assume the equipment is safe, please check weekly. Occupier checks do not replace the professional maintenance contractor and the need for periodic servicing and compliance checks.
- Make sure no notice boards or display around the door systems.
- Check for slip or trip hazards in the area of the door.
- Check glass for breaks / cracks.
- Check all doors have signs on – Reference BS7036:0.
- Check associated screens or barriers are secured.
- Check emergency stop (if fitted).
- Check press pads or manual activations (if fitted).
- Walk towards the activation sensors – you should not need to hesitate as you approach the door – the door should open effortlessly.
- Doors should close smoothly – within 1 to 5 seconds (repeat both sides).
- A box the size of a child should be used as a test object to check the safety sensors. Box dimensions of 700mm (h) x 300mm (w) x 200mm (d).
- Place a test box in the plane of movement of the closing door (in the opening) – make sure the automatic door set remains in the open position.
- Place a test box in the plane of movement of the opening door (back edge or side screen) – make sure the door slows in its opening movement to limit impact.
- Record the results and keep for 1 year.
Automatic Swing Doors Safety Checks
